Public Participation and Outreach for Historic Preservation Programs

Building public support for historic preservation programs is vital to their success. This session will explore various public participation and outreach strategies for historic preservation focusing on their use in the municipal environment.  The panel will share experiences developing and implementing tools designed to both inform the public and encourage their participation in preservation initiatives including historic resources surveys, preservation ordinances and design guidelines, and others . The session will feature up-to-date uses of social media to promote meeting attendance, encourage public conversations about preservation issues, and provide a forum for direct input.
